Happy New Year

27/01/2016 17:03

Dear Parents and Friends of OOSH,

Welcome new OOSH parents and welcome back to old friends.

We have had a very busy Vacation Care and we are ready to get back in the swing of things and can’t wait to see the children progress into their next school year.

Vacation Care Photos will be posted on our website soon.

I thought I would send an update on what to expect from OOSH this term.

Program

I have been busy planning our Program for term 1, there is a more detailed overview on our website (https://beautypointoosh.webnode.com/news/term-1-program-overview/ ) and also outside the hall doors. A detailed weekly program will be on display on the sign in desk each week.

The children’s interests are at the heart of the Beauty Point OOSH Program. We design our program using the Piaget theory; ‘Learning Through Play’ as recommended by our National Authoritative Body ACEQUA.

Our activities are aimed to develop children’s independence, social skills, motor skills and life skills though fun activities.

In addition to planned activities children have chance for free play both indoors and outdoors with creativity and imagination first and foremost.

Special Events

Clean up Australia Day

To continue the success of last year, on the 4th of March 2015 at 4pm the children at Beauty Point OOSH will be donning their gloves and rubbish bags and taking to Chinamans beach in a bid to clean our community.

We will be leaving the centre at 3:45 pm, aiming to be at our meeting point at Chinamans Beach by 4pm. We aim to be back at the Centre by 5.15pm.

This is a great opportunity to educate the children about the importance of looking after our beautiful beaches and the environment. We hope to have to a representative from the Mosman Daily to join us.

All friends, parents and children of OOSH are welcome to join us, the more the merrier.

Homework

As we are not an academic organisation we cannot force the children to do homework, although we can encourage children to complete their homework during OOSH time. Between 5.10 and 5.30 we have quiet time, this a perfect opportunity for the children to complete homework or to read a book. Educators are available to help during this time.

Music Lessons

If you child has music lesson during their time at OOSH please see myself or Bec for a return and release form.

Lost Property

We have a huge box of lost property from term time and vacation care, if you are missing anything please come and take a look.

Kindy Club

The Kindy children will be collect from their classroom on OOSH days for the first term (or until needed). The Kindy children will take part in Kindy Club. These activities will get them used to the routine, staff and activities we do in OOSH.

Senior Club

Senior club is for children in year 4 and upwards. The senior program is designed to give the older children more responsibility, independence and to develop their learning through varied activities. This year the seniors will be kayaking with Sydney Harbour Kayaks on Wednesdays. This is a 1.5 hour lesson at Spit Harbour which combines water safety, games, as well as time on the water. If you would like your child to take part in this activity they need to have a permanent booking on Wednesdays.

OOSH Parent Committee

As some of you already know OOSH is a non for profit organisation run by a committee of parents. We meet every 6 weeks from 6.30 pm for around 1 hour. We would love new members to join our committee. Our Agm will be at the beginning of term 1 (  date to be confirmed) and all OOSH parents are welcome to join us.

Thank you for your continuing support throughout 2015 and we are looking forward to an exciting 2016.

Fran
